On Thursday, 26th February 2026, two of our members from the IW Club of Saldanha attended the closing ceremony of the Foundation for Alcohol Related Research (FARR) West Coast office.

It was a deeply moving occasion, filled with heartfelt tributes to a team that has given outstanding service to pregnant women and to children born with FASD. Their dedication, compassion, and tireless work have made a real and lasting difference in our community.

We were also given a short but powerful training session, highlighting the incredible work they have done over the years. One message stood out clearly: just three minutes. Three minutes spent speaking to a woman about the impact alcohol can have on her unborn child could change a life forever.

FARR trained many professionals and community members from NGOs, Government Departments, Community-Based Organisations, and Faith-Based Organisations — equipping them with knowledge and tools in the hope that they will continue spreading the vital message that no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy.

The closure of this organisation leaves a significant void on the West Coast. The impact of their absence will be felt by many.

With heartfelt thanks to Leana Olivier, CEO, and the Board Members; Jaco Louw, past West Coast Programme Coordinator and Researcher; Hayley Hofmeester, current West Coast Programme Coordinator; and Elloise Karolus, Community Worker.

We honour your work, your legacy, and the countless lives you have touched. 💛
