Inner wheel club of
Goodwood
Our Story
The Club Chartered on the 20th May 1989 with 18 members. The charter President was Heather Minne. We maintained an average of between 18 and 22 members for many years after the charter. We went from strength to strength over the years with 3 members having served as District Chairman namely the late Wena de Villiers, the late Molly Chapman and Wilna Howell who is no longer a member due to ill health. We also had 2 district Secretaries namely Maree Jacobs and Lesley Ward as well as a district Treasurer Debbie Aaron.
We have over the last few years lost members but we remain 11 committed ladies who do whatever we can to improve the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. We are supported by our Rotarians whom we in turn support where necessary.
What We Do
Protea Old Age Home
We visit the home with tea, eats and entertainment for 100 elderly twice a year, for a Valentine’s and Spring Tea.
Goodwood College
To date have supplied over 1000 sanitary towels for the school children. Ongoing collecting pads.
Boucher House Foster to Family
Donate a monetary food voucher each month. Do Christmas gifts and collect clothing for the children.
Malachi House
Our latest new project, supporting 12 children from the street that 2 families have taken in. We collect clothing and this year bought them clothing and a sweetie bag for Christmas.
Ryterwacht Community Centre
We collect 2nd hand clothing, bric a brac and any household requirements for a very poor community. Support them with their fundraisers and last year did a personalised Christmas Gift for 10 specific children. We’ve been assisting them for many years.
Tygerberg Hospital & Bless a Baby
We knit beanie caps for prem babies at Tygerberg Hospital and support the Bless a Baby project.
Moms often leave hospitals with babies and nothing warm for mom or baby. Bless a Baby make bags for each mom to take home with the necessary items.
Other activities
Do soup jars for the needy, especially in winter.
We try to assist with any other urgent need in our community.
Our Mission & Approach
Fundraising
We try and arrange 2 big fundraisers a year to accommodate our special projects mentioned above. Our Rotarians are very kind and often assist us financially when a shortage arises.
We are a great caring and loving fellowship club.
