This year our annual spring lunch, held on 24 August, focused on the 30th anniversary of our club (IW Club of Saldanha). The event which was held at the Fossil Park in Vredenburg, was attended by 60 guests, who were treated to a three-course meal. Among the guests were two of our founder members, Maretha Blignaut and Val Cook, who each received a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Carol Podetti Ngono, Founder and CEO of Valued Citizens, was the guest speaker. She spoke on the Bridging for Life programme, a two year leadership programme for Grade 11 and 12 learners. These learners are assisted with entry into higher education and the training sector and ultimately employability. Carol highlighted the importance of transferring soft skills to young people.

She was appreciative of the support that members of our club provided to the learners. The nature of the partnership with Valued Citizens was covered in our newsletters.

The lunch (event) was a joyous celebration of 30 years of our members selflessly serving vulnerable members of our communities and forging friendships. The local newspaper “DIE WESLANDER” wrote an article on the event which created awareness of IW Saldanha in the community.
We want to thank our sponsors for their generous support without whom this event could not have taken place. A special thank you to the IW Clubs who came to celebrate our 30th Anniversary with us. 🙂
