What We Do
Neo-natal layettes
Journey of Service to the Health Sector began with donations of Baby Clothes to Somerset Hospital
Neo-Natal facility.
After some years we found that we were one of several donors so we switched to supporting the increasingly needy community served by Atlantis Wesfleur Hospital Neo-Natal.
The rising number of young teen mothers has made this need ever more urgent because they generally enter the facility to give birth with no support. We provide neo-natal layettes several times a year that are distributed by the hospital staff to the most needy mothers.
Ongoing Annual Donations
- Doreen and Pikkie Geffen Bursary Fund for Social Science students at UCT.
- Ladles of Love; food for the hungry
- Meals on Wheels ; for the elderly and indisposed
- Peninsula School Feeding
- CHOC House vegetables for Child cancer patients
- Namaqualand Schools – Soup Donations
- Oasis Handicapped Workers – food parcels over Christmas Holidays
- Red Cross Children’s Hospital : fund for transporting patients
Support for Atlantis Rape Crisis Centre
Regular donations of comfort packs in support of Rape Crisis facility in Atlantis called THUTHUZELA (means Comfort in isiXhosa).
They offer comfort, medical care, as well as access to the legal system and counselling for survivors of sexual violence.
The high incidence of child rape led to donations of toys for child victims.
CRAFT PROJECTS
Klein Nourivier Community requested help to source Pull-on Slax for the High School Girls. At R115 each ex Durban they were unaffordable so the required slax were run up by the club. They were sent up along with elastic to be pulled in and hemming length to suit.
Another ongoing craft project is the creation of Number and Alphabet sets from recycled plastic bottle tops, these are in great demand in Grade R classes.
ECD Schools in Namaqualand
Kamieskroon – Nourivier IW Hannover Opernhaus joint project to equip Grade R Classroom in the new Doringrosie ECD School, 55km from Cape Town.
